Who are we and what do we do?
Quainton Village Society was formed as a local amenity society in 1989 "to support the preservation of existing features of historical merit or public interest, and to encourage high standards in new developments in the village". The Society is a Registered Charity No. 802608. The committee looks at all relevant planning applications and considers the views of local residents; where appropriate, we convey our views to the planning department. Our role in this context is separate from but complementary to the Parish Council.
We also aim to promote knowledge of the history, geography and architecture of the parish through a number of publications, and we hold a small archive of photographs, maps and other material associated with the village.
We sponsor a Village Directory, listing the various clubs, organisations and services with names and contact details, and a Village Guide, giving a background to the village, its history and present day features. Copies of these are available, free of charge, to new members.
Our overall objectives are
- To steward and conserve the village's history
- To assist other organisations or initiatives that achieve these objectives
- To promote and safeguard the quality of life in the village
We are a registered charity, and we hold an annual meeting each autumn. The executive committee of four officers and between 5 to 9 other members meets monthly, and a Chairman's Newsletter is distributed every quarter to all members. We aim to be a positive and valued component of village life with a central or supportive role in a wide range of events, activities and functions. As such we hope to be viewed as an umbrella group caring about Quainton and we welcome opportunities for co-working or networking with other groups or people in Quainton.
